NVDA e-Speak Text-to-Speech Project Update (March 2014)
CIS in partnership with the Daisy Forum of India is engaged in a project supported by The Hans Foundation to develop enhancements to the open source screen reader for Windows NVDA (Non Visual desktop Access) and e-Speak text-to-speech synthesiser in 15 Indian languages.
Institute for Internet & Society 2014, Pune
Last month, activists, journalists, researchers, and members of civil society came together at the 2014 Institute for Internet & Society in Pune, which was hosted by CIS and funded by the Ford Foundation. The Institute was a week long, in which participants heard from speakers from various backgrounds on issues arising out of the intersection of internet and society, such as intellectual property, freedom of expression, and accessibility, to name a few. Accessibility of Banks and Financial Services Institutions: A Global Survey
The Global Initiative for Inclusive ICTs (G3ict), a non-profit initiative advocating digital inclusion for persons with disabilities, has launched a global survey called ‘Banking and Financial Services Accessibility Initiative’. The project aims to be a repository of information on the measures that banks, insurance companies and allied financial services firms are undertaking in order to make their offerings more accessible and user-friendly for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
