Edit-a-thon at DSERT Bengaluru to improve Science-related articles in Kannada Wikipedia

We have been working with the Department of State Educational Research and Training of Karnataka (DSERT), a Government of Karnataka-run research and training institution headquartered in Bengaluru. With the hope of expanding the reach of Science-related content in Kannada Wikipedia, we organised an edit-a-thon spanning over three days from the 11th January through the 13th.

This edit-a-thon was part of many ongoing outreach programmes at DSERT and had engagement with faculty members from several schools and colleges in Karnataka, and help them contribute to the Science-related articles in Kannada Wikipedia. The edit-a-thon was organised by the Centre for Internet and Society’s Access to Knowledge programme and 12 educators participated in the programme. In total, 53 articles were created/improved during these three days. With six female educator-editors actively participating in this event, there was a fair balance in the gender demography. About Us

The Centre for Internet and Society (CIS) is a non-profit organisation that undertakes interdisciplinary research on internet and digital technologies from policy and academic perspectives. The areas of focus include digital accessibility for persons with disabilities, access to knowledge, intellectual property rights, openness (including open data, free and open source software, open standards, open access, open educational resources, and open video), internet governance, telecommunication reform, digital privacy, and cyber-security.
