About the Organization:
The Center for Internet and Society (CIS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to exploring the intersections of technology, policy, and society. Our Access to Knowledge (A2K) program focuses on enhancing access to free knowledge and open content, particularly within the Wikimedia Movement in India. We collaborate with communities, Wikimedians, and organizations to promote knowledge sharing and accessibility.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and able Program Associate (Communications) who will be responsible for planning and executing communication strategies to enhance the visibility of CIS-A2K’s initiatives, engage with stakeholders, and promote open knowledge in India. The role will involve content creation, social media management, public relations, and event coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
Communication campaigns:
- Build communication campaigns to promote free knowledge in Indian languages and optimize outreach strategies.
- Create and execute a comprehensive communication strategy for the A2K team to support the goals and objectives of the program.
Content Creation:
- Generate and curate content for the CIS-A2K website, blog, newsletters, and social media channels.
- Develop compelling articles, case studies, and reports related to open knowledge initiatives.
- Support team members in Creating movement resources in their respective areas of work.
Social Media Management and Public Relations:
- Manage and update CIS-A2K's social media platforms to ensure regular and engaging content.
- Monitor social media trends and identify opportunities for outreach and engagement.
- Draft press releases, media kits, and other communication materials as needed. Assist in planning, organizing, and promoting events, workshops, and conferences related to open knowledge.
Reporting and Analytics:
- Support the A2K team in optimizing reporting practices and data presentation. Promote best practices in reporting within the team.
Qualifications:
- We are dedicated to promoting gender balance in our team. As part of this effort, we will prioritize female and non-binary candidates for this role.
- A bachelor’s degree is needed. Bachelor’s degree in Design, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field is a plus.
- This is a role for freshers. However, 1-2 years of experience in communications, content creation, and social media management is a plus.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English, as well as proficiency in at least one Indian language; proficiency in multiple Indian languages is a plus.
- Proficiency with Graphic Design Software (like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Canva) and Social Media management tools. Basic knowledge of Video Editing is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with open knowledge initiatives and the Wikimedia movement is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Information:
- This is a full-time remote position based anywhere in India.
- Travel will be required for events, workshops, and technical collaboration.
- Salary range: Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 45,000 per month, based on experience and qualifications.
- Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- We are planning to complete the hiring process before mid-December.
