We are pleased to invite applications for a senior technologist, to support our research teams.


We are looking for an experienced individual to help grow and supervise multiple research areas at CIS. We are seeking a Senior Technologist, who can lead and oversee research which requires technical competence and research methodologies involving the use of specialised technology. This role would also involve supporting several researchers in their growth as well as overseeing the planning and delivery of research across the organisation. We welcome applications from individuals with various backgrounds. 



You can be located anywhere, but we will require you to be eligible for work in India, and have a bank account in India. While we have an office in Bengaluru and several colleagues based in the National Capital Region (NCR), we expect work-from-home protocols to be in place for the foreseeable future. 



Qualifying requirements



  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in computer science, information and communication technology, cybersecurity and/or mathematics 

  • Cumulative experience of 4 or more years of work in academia, research (in semi or non-academic settings), policy-making, and/or technology development

  • Experience managing research projects, including managing a research team. 

  • Strong research and writing skills demonstrated by a diverse publication record




  • Advanced degree

  • Prior work in one or more technical domains, including digital infrastructure, data architectures, FOSS, network security, quantitative data collection and analysis techniques, technological standards, privacy, data mining and machine learning

  • Experience of designing and conducting interdisciplinary research using various methodologies, with particular strength in quantitative methods and analytical tools 



High-level responsibilities

  • To determine research agenda, strategies and directions for descriptive research using quantitative methods;

  • To formulate and help implement strategies to build digital resilience for social justice organisations; 

  • To support various verticals in CIS in framing research questions and methodologies which require technological competence;

  • To take the leading role in hiring  and supervision of staff members and consultants working on technological issues;

  • To interface with donors.

  • To contribute to and participate in institution building and administrative matters.

The remuneration shall be commensurate with experience and qualifications of the candidate. We also offer a benefits package that includes modest hospitalization insurance, mental health support and home office equipment allowances.
