The Centre for Internet and Society engages with concerns of digital pluralism, public accountability and pedagogic practices in the field of Internet and Society. Presently it is a 12 member team and works out from its office in Bangalore.

Sunil Abraham

Sunil Abraham is the Executive Director of CIS. He is also a social entrepreneur and Free Software advocate. He founded Mahiti in 1998 which aims to reduce the cost and complexity of Information and Communication Technology for the Voluntary Sector by using Free Software. Today, Mahiti employs more than 50 engineers and Sunil continues to serve on the board as a board member. Sunil was elected an Ashoka fellow in 1999 to 'explore the democratic potential of the Internet' and was granted a Sarai FLOSS fellowship in 2003. Between June 2004 and June 2007, he managed the International Open Source Network, a project of the United Nations Development Programme's Asia-Pacific Development Information Programme serving 42 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Between September 2007 and June 2008, he also managed ENRAP, an electronic network of International Fund for Agricultural Development projects in the Asia-Pacific facilitated and co-funded by International Development Research Centre, Canada. Nishant Shah

Nishant Shah is the Director-Research at CIS. He is a doctoral candidate at the Centre for Study of Culture and Society, Bangalore and a recipient of the Asia Scholarship Foundation's fellowship for comparative research at the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies, Shanghai University, Shanghai, China. Nishant is a regular columnist with the Sunday Eye, the national edition of Indian Express, Delhi, GQ India and DML Central. He has authored/co-authored many peer-reviewed articles in several journals and is the series editor for all the monographs:

Nishant

Nirmita Narasimhan

Nirmita Narasimhan is a Programme Manager at CIS and works on policy research and advocacy related to IP reform and technology access for persons with disabilities. She was awarded the National Award for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities by the President of India in recognition of her work in December 2010. Her work ranges from research and policy drafting and review to advocacy through campaigns, workshops, etc. Nirmita authored a chapter The Business Case for Web Accessibility in a handbook published by the NASSCOM Foundation and is the editor for the following publications:

Pranesh Prakash

Pranesh Prakash is a Programme Manager at CIS and works on policy research and advocacy around intersections of technology and law focusing on access to knowledge (primarily copyright reforms), promoting 'openness' (including open government data, open standards, open access, and free/libre/open source software), freedom of expression, and privacy and internet governance. Pranesh is the co-author for the following publications:

Prasad Krishna

Prasad Krishna is a Publications Manager at CIS and works on updating the CIS website including uploading of blog posts, new events, media coverage, event reports and all other featured research outputs. Prasad also prepares the monthly newsbulletin, Annual Reports, Minutes of the Meetings, quarterly reports for CIS donors and is also responsible for editing of the Monographs and other publicity related matters.

Abul Hasim

Abul Hasim is the System Administrator. He manages the server, monitors server logs, takes the server backup, supports to manage the network for internet connectivity. He is also responsible for managing mail server, Google analytics and promote remote desktop support and other miscellaneous services.
 

Usha Nandini

Usha Nandini is an Accounts Officer at CIS. She prepares the financial statements, MIS reports, maintains and analyzes budgets, coordinates with banks, advises the management about issues such as resource utilisation, tax strategies, etc. She also assists the administration department in booking of tickets, following up with insurance agencies, maintaining files and records, maintaining the leave management system, and other official duties.

Velankanni Royson

Velankanni Royson works as an Office Assistant, He assists the administration department in organising events, takes videos of the events, uploads them to the CIS website, Blip TV, YouTube, etc.,
