        &lt;b&gt;With more free and open software coming in, more people are coming together and collaborating. The ownership of various projects are coming from bigger corporations to the hands of people. It is essential to learn about the global, collaborative and multilingual projects in our language so that it come out of the four walls of literature and become the language of economy and knowledge. In this piece, I have discussed about three open knowledge projects Odia Wikipedia, Odia Wikisource and Global Voices Odia, how they work and how anyone can contribute in these projects.

&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;ଭାଷାଟି ଆମର ଏ ଦେଶର ମୋଟ ୬୦୦ରୁ ଅଧିକ ଭାଷା ଓ ତହିଁରୁ ୬ଟି ପୁରୁଣା ଭାଷା ଭିତରୁ ଗୋଟିଏ ବୋଲି ମାନ୍ୟତା ପାଇଲା । ଭାଷା ଭିତ୍ତିରେ ରାଜ୍ୟ ହେବାରେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ହେଉଛି ଏସିଆରେ ପ୍ରଥମ । ଆମ ଭାଷା ମୂଳ ବିଶାଳ କଳିଙ୍ଗ ଭୁଖଣ୍ଡର ସତ୍ତାକୁ ଧରି ରଖିଥିବା ବୋଧେ ଏକୋଇ ଭାଷା । ଏତେ ସବୁ ପରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଆମ ଭାଷା ଆନ୍ତର୍ଜାତିକ ସ୍ତରରେ କେତେ ପରିଚିତ ତାହା ନ କହିବା ଭଲ ।&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;" class="callout"&gt;ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଭଳି ଏତେ ପୁରାତନ ଭାଷା ଜଗତରେ ରହିଛି ବୋଲି କେଇ ଶହ ବର୍ଷ ତଳେ ଆମ ନିଜର ଥିବା ଆମ ପଡ଼ିଶା ବଙ୍ଗ, ବିହାରର ଲୋକେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଜାଣିଥିବେ କି ନାଁ ସନ୍ଦେହ । ଯେଉଁଠି ନିଜ ରାଜ୍ୟର ଲୋକେ ଓଡ଼ିଆରେ କଥା ହେବାକୁ ନାରାଜ ସେଠି ଦେଶବିଦେଶରେ ପତିଆରା କଥା କହିବା ତୁଚ୍ଛା ପାଗଳାମି ବୋଲି ପାଠକେ ହୁଏତ ଭାବୁଥିବେ ।&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;ତେବେ ଏ ପ୍ରସଙ୍ଗ ଆଲୋଚନା କରିବା ପଛରେ ରହିଛି ଆମ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଜାତିର ମାନସିକତା । ବିଦେଶରୁ ଆସିଥିବା ଲୋକଟେ ଅଧିକ ଆଦର ପାଏ, ନିଜ ଲୋକେ ବିଦେଶ ଯାଇ ବାହୁଡ଼ିଲେ ଅଧିକ ସମ୍ମାନର ଅଧିକାରୀ ହୁଅନ୍ତି, ଏମିତିକି ଲୋକେ ମଦ ପିଇଲେ ବିଦେଶୀ ଭାଷାରେ ବକନ୍ତି ବୋଲି ଶୁଣାଯାଏ! ଏଣୁ ନିଜ ରାଇଜ ଆଉ ଦେଶରେ ଯେବେ ଆମ ଭାଷାଟି ଗାଁ କନିଆଁ, କାଳେ ବିଦେଶରେ କାଟତି ବଢ଼ିଲେ, ଭାଷାଟି ଏକ ଆନ୍ତର୍ଜାତୀୟ ଭାଷା ବୋଲି ବିଖ୍ୟାତ ହେବ ଆଉ ନିଜ ଲୋକଙ୍କ ତା ପ୍ରତି ଆଦର ବଢ଼ିପାରେ ବୋଲି ବିଚାରିବା । ଏ କଥାଟି ଯେ ଆମ ବିଲାତ ଫେରନ୍ତା ବାବୁ ମାନେ ହେଜିନଥିବେ ତା' ନୁହେଁ, ହେଲେ ଯେଉଁଠି ଖଣ୍ଡି ଇଂରାଜୀ ଓ ହିନ୍ଦିରେ କାମ ଚଳି ଯାଉଛି ସେଠି ସେମାନେ କାହିଁକି କଷଣ ସହି ଯେ ପ୍ରାଞ୍ଜଳ ଇଂରାଜୀ ଶିଖିବେ ଆଉ ପାଞ୍ଚ ଦେଶର ଲୋକଙ୍କ ଆଗରେ ନିଜ କଥା ସଳଖେ ବଖାଣିବେ? କାମ ତ ଚଳିଯାଉଛି!&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;କେଇଦିନ ତଳେ ଇଟାଲିରୁ ଜଣେ ସାଙ୍ଗ ଜଣାଇଲେ "ଓଡ଼ିଆ" ଶବ୍ଦଟି (ସେମାନେ, ପର୍ତ୍ତୁଗୀଜ ଓ ସ୍ପାନିସ ଭାଷୀଏ "ଓଦିଆ" ବୋଲି ଉଚ୍ଚାରଣ କରନ୍ତି) "ଘୃଣା କରିବା" ପାଇଁ ବ୍ୟବହାର ହୁଏ । ମୁହଁରେ କହିଲି ନାହିଁ, ହେଲେ ମନରେ ଭାଜିଲି ଆମ ଲୋକେ ନିଜ ଭାଷାକୁ କଣ କମ ହିନିମାନ ନ କରନ୍ତି । ଯଦି ଆମ ଭାଷା ଜଗତର ଛାମୁଆଁ ଭାଷା ଭିତରୁ ଗୋଟେ ହୋଇପାରନ୍ତା ତାହେଲେ ଏ "ଘୃଣାର ଭାଷା" ହୋଇ ଆଉ ନ ରହନ୍ତା । ତେବେ ଆମମାନଙ୍କ ଭିତରୁ କେତେ ଜଣ ଜଗତର ଆଉ ଭାଷା ଗବେଷାଳିଙ୍କ ସଙ୍ଗେ ନିଜ ଭାଷା କଥା ପକାଉଛୁ? ଆମେ ଯେଡ଼େ ବଡ଼ ଆଁ କରି ଆଉ ଜଳପ୍ରପାତକୁ ଟିଭିରେ ଦେଖୁଛୁ ଆମ ଖଣ୍ଡାଧାର କି ବରେହିପାଣିର ଛିଟିକାଏ ପାଣି ନିଜ ଦେହରେ ବଜେଇ ଚାଖୁଛୁ କି ତା'ର ମଜା?&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;" class="callout"&gt;ଓଡ଼ିଶା ସୀମା ଡେଇଁଲେ ଓଡ଼ିଆମାନେ ଏତେ ଅନର୍ଗଳ ହିନ୍ଦୀ କହିବେ ଆପଣଙ୍କୁ ବୋଧ ହେବ ବୋଧେ ଏମାନେ ଅଭିମନ୍ୟୁ ହୋଇ ବୋଉ ପେଟରୁ ହିନ୍ଦୀ ଶିଖିଥିଲେ ।&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;ଅଧିକ ଭାଷା ଶିଖିଲେ ଭଲ, କାମରେ ଆସେ । ହେଲେ ନିଜ ଭାଷାକୁ ତୁଚ୍ଛ କରି, ତା' ଉପରେ ମଳ ଅଜାଡ଼ି ଦେଇ କିଏ ନୂଆ ଭାଷାରେ ଏତେ ପାରଙ୍ଗମ ହୁଏନା । ଆଜି ଯାଏ ଆମ ଭାଷାର ଏତେ ସାହିତ୍ୟ ଯେ ଗଢ଼ା, ତା ଭିତରୁ କେତେ ଅନ୍ୟ ଭାଷାରେ ଅନୁବାଦ ହୋଇଛି । ଯେଉଁମାନେ ଆମ ସାହିତ୍ୟର ମୁଖିଆ ବୋଲାଇ କାଳ କାଳ ଧରି ଗାଦି ମାଡ଼ି ବସିଛନ୍ତି ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ପୁଚ୍ଛିବାର ବେଳ ଆସିଛି କାହିଁକି ଆମେ ଖାଲି ଅନ୍ୟ ଭାଷାରୁ ଅନୁବାଦ କରୁଛୁ, କାହିଁକି ଆମର କାଳଜୟୀ ଲେଖାମାନ ଦେଶ ଓ ଦେଶ ବାହାରେ ପଢ଼ାଯାଉନାହିଁ? ଭାରତୀୟ ଭାଷା ଭିତରୁ କେବଳ ତାମିଲ ଭାଷା କଥା ଚର୍ଚ୍ଚା ହୁଏ ଦେଶ ବିଦେଶରେ । କାରଣ କଣ ଜାଣନ୍ତି? ବାକି ସବୁ କାରଣ ବାଦେ ସବୁଠୁ ବଡ଼ କାରଣଟି ହେଲା ସେ ଭାଷାର ପୁରୋଧାମାନେ ରାଜ୍ୟ କି ଦେଶ ଭିତରେ ବାନ୍ଧି ନ ହୋଇ ନିଜ ଭାଷାକୁ ସାରା ଜଗତକୁ ନେଇଛନ୍ତି । ଖାଲି ପଇସାର ଟାଣରେ ଏ କାମ ହୋଇନାହିଁ, ଏଥିରେ ଧନ, ରାଜନୀତି ଆଉ ଡିପ୍ଲୋମାସି ଲାଗିଛି । ଆମ ସାହିତ୍ୟିକମାନେ ଥରୁଟେ ବିଦେଶ ଗଲେ ସେଠି ନିଜ ଭାଷା, ରାଇଜ କଥା କେତେ ଯେ ଗପନ୍ତି ତା' ମା' ଗଙ୍ଗେଇଙ୍କି ଜଣା । ଗପୁଥିଲେ ତାଙ୍କ ପରିଚିତ ମହଲରେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଭାଷା ବାବଦରେ ମଞ୍ଜିଟିଏ ପୋତା ହୋଇଥାନ୍ତା, ଅନ୍ତତ କିଛି ଭାଷାରେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ବହି ଅନୁଦିତ ହୋଇଥାନ୍ତା, ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଭାଷାର ପୁରୁଣାପଣ ବାବଦରେ ବିଦେଶୀ ବ୍ଲଗରେ, ଖବରକାଗଜରେ, ଟେଲିଭିଜନରେ ଚର୍ଚ୍ଚା ହୋଇଥାନ୍ତା । ହୋଇଛି କି ଏଥିରୁ କାଣିଚାଏ? ଆମେ ନିଜ ଭାଷାର ବିଶ୍ୱବିଦ୍ୟାଳୟ କଥା ବିଚାରୁଛୁ, ହେଲେ ଆକାଶ କଇଆଁ ସ୍ୱରୂପ "ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରୀୟ ମାନ୍ୟତା କେନ୍ଦ୍ର ଅନୁଦାନ ରାଶି" ଆସିବାକୁ ନ ଚାହିଁ ବିଦେଶରୁ ରାଶି କେମିତି ଆସି ଏ କାମରେ ଲାଗିବ ତା' ପାଇଁ ବାଟ ତିଆରୁଛୁ କି? ତେବେ ଏ ଦୁଃଖ ବଖାଣିଲେ ନ ସରେ । ଚୋରକୁ ମାନ ମାରି ଖପରାରେ ଖାଇଲେ ଏଠି ଘରବୁଡ଼ି ଆଣ୍ଠୁଏ ହେବ । ତେଣୁ ବେଳ ଥାଉଁ ଥାଉଁ କିଛି ନିଅଁ ପୋତା ଚାଲୁ, ତେଣିକି ଘର ଯେବେ ଗଢ଼ାଯିବ ଏ ସାହା ହେବ ।&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;ଓଡ଼ିଆର ପରିଚିତି ଦେଶବିଦେଶରେ ଯେତିକି ଉଣା ଜଗତର ବାକି ଭାଷା ପାଇଁ ତିଆରି ହୋଇଥିବା ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଜ୍ଞାନର ଭଣ୍ଡାରରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ସେତିକି ଅଜଣା । ଇଂରାଜୀ ବାଦ ଅନ୍ୟାନ୍ୟ ଭାଷାର ଲେଖାର ପ୍ରକାଶନ ପାଇଁ ଅନେକ ସ୍ଥାନ ରହିଛି । ତେବେ ଏମିତି କେତୋଟି ଜାଗତିକ ସ୍ଥାନରେ ଓଡ଼ିଆର ଚିହ୍ନଟେ ଯେ ରହିବା ଲୋଡ଼ା ତା' କହିବା ବାହୁଲ୍ୟ । କାନ୍ଦି ବୋବାଳି ରାମମୋହନ ଲାଇବ୍ରେରି ସକାଶେ କେଇ ଶହ ବହି ଛାପି ଯେଉଁମାନେ ନିଜର ବା ଭାଷାର ଉନ୍ନତି କରିବେ ବୋଲି ସାଧି ବସିଥିବେ ତାଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ନାକରା ଖବର ଆଉ ପିଲେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ପଢ଼ୁନାହାନ୍ତି । ଓଡ଼ିଆ କଥା ଛାଡ଼ନ୍ତୁ, ପିଲେ ବହି ପଢ଼ୁନାହାନ୍ତି । ତାଙ୍କୁ ଆଜିକାଲି ଲୋଡ଼ା ଭଳିକି ଭଳି ଗେମ, ଆନିମେସନ ଆଉ ଗ୍ରାଫିକ ନଭେଲ (କମିକ୍ସ ଭଳି, ଛବି ସମ୍ବଳିତ ବହି) । ପୁଣି ପିଲାଏ ମୋବାଇଲ ଆଉ କମ୍ପ୍ୟୁଟରରୁ ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ ଖୋଜି ବସୁଛନ୍ତି ନୂଆ ନୂଆ କଥା । ଆଜିର ପିଢ଼ି ଯାହା ଦେଇ ଶିଖୁଛନ୍ତି ତାଙ୍କୁ ସେଇ ମାଧ୍ୟମରେ ଶିଖାଇପାରିଲେ ସିନା ସେମାନେ ଶିଖିବେ । ଖାଲି ଏବର ପିଢ଼ିଙ୍କୁ ଦୋଷ ଦେଇ ଭାଷା ମରିଯାଉଛି ବୋଲି କୁମ୍ବୀର କାନ୍ଦଣା କାନ୍ଦିଲେ କି ହେବ? ତେବେ ଆସନ୍ତୁ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଭାଷାକୁ ଅଧିକ ବିଶ୍ୱସ୍ତରୀୟ କରିବା ଲାଗି ତିଆରି କିଛି ଓଡ଼ିଆ ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପ ବାବଦରେ ଆଲୋଚନା କରିବା ।&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ ପହଞ୍ଚିଲେ କୌଣସି ବିଷୟ ଖୋଜିବାକୁ ପ୍ରଥମେ ଖୋଲାହୁଏ ଗୁଗୁଲ କି ୟାହୁ ଭଳି ସର୍ଚ ଇଞ୍ଜିନ । ଖୋଜିଲା ପରେ ଯାହା ପ୍ରଥମ ଲିଙ୍କରେ ଆସେ ସେ ହେଲା ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆ (Wikipedia) । ହାବାଇ ଭାଷାରେ "ଉଇକି"ର ମାନେ ସହଳ । ଆଙ୍ଗୁଳି ଛୁଆଁରେ ଝଅଟ ମିଳିଯାଉଥିବାରୁ ତା' ନାଁ "ଉଇକି" ଦିଆଯାଇଛି । ଏଇଟି ଜଗତର ବିଶାଳତମ ଜ୍ଞାନକୋଷ । ୨୦୦୧ରେ ଇଂରାଜୀ ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆରେ ପରେ ପ୍ରଥମ ଭାରତୀୟ ଭାଷା ଭାବେ ପଞ୍ଜାବୀ ଓ ଅହମିୟା ସହ ଯେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଏଥିରେ ସ୍ଥାନ ପାଇଲା ତା' ଅନେକେ ଜାଣି ନଥିବେ । ୨୦୦୨ରେ ତିଆରି ସିନା ହୋଇଗଲା । ହେଲେ ଏଥିରେ ଲେଖିବ କିଏ? ଇଂରାଜୀର ପାଠକ ଓ ଲେଖକ ଅଧିକ । ଆଉ ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆରେ ଲେଖିଲେ କଉଡ଼ିଟିଏ ମିଳେନାହିଁ । ସ୍ୱେଚ୍ଛାରେ ଲେଖିବାକୁ ବିଦେଶରେ ଯେମିତି ଲୋକ ବାହାରନ୍ତି ଆମର ସେ ଅବସ୍ଥା ନାହିଁ । ତଥାପି ୨୦୧୧ ବେଳକୁ ଓଡ଼ିଶା ବାହାରେ ଥିବା କିଛି ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଏ ତିମିରରେ କିଛି ଆଲୁଅ ଜଳାଇଲେ । ଧୀରେ ଧୀରେ ଓଡ଼ିଶାରେ ଥିବା ଓଡ଼ିଆମାନେ ମଧ୍ୟ ସେଥିରେ ଯୋଡ଼ିହେଲେ । ଆଉ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଭାଷାର ବିଶାଳତମ ଅନଲାଇନ ଜ୍ଞାନକୋଷ । or.wikipedia.org ରେ ଉପଲବ୍ଧ ଏ ଏନସାଇକ୍ଲୋପିଡ଼ିଆ ସୀମିତ ସ୍ୱେଚ୍ଛାସେବୀଙ୍କ ଦେଇ ସମ୍ପାଦିତ ହେଉଥିବାରୁ ସେତେ ବିଶାଳ ନୁହେଁ ସତ, କିନ୍ତୁ ଏହା ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଭାଷାରେ ଉପଲବ୍ଧ ବିଶାଳତମ ୱେବସାଇଟ । ବିଭିନ୍ନ ବହି, ଖବରକାଗଜ ଓ ପତ୍ରପତ୍ରିକାରୁ ଖୋଜି ଲୋଡ଼ି ଏଥିରେ ସ୍ଥାନ, ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିତ୍ୱ, ଐତିହାସିକ ସ୍ଥଳୀ ଓ ଜଣାଶୁଣା ଅନେକ ବିଷୟରେ ପ୍ରସଙ୍ଗ ଗଢ଼ିବା ଏବଂ ଆଗରୁ ଥିବା ପ୍ରସଙ୍ଗରେ ଅଧିକ ତଥ୍ୟ ଯୋଡ଼ି କଳେବର ବଢ଼ାଇବା ଲାଗି ଲୋଡ଼ା ଆହୁରି ଅନେକ ହାତ । ବିଶାଳାକାର ଏନସାଇକ୍ଲୋପିଡ଼ିଆସବୁ ପାଠାଗାର ଭିତରେ ଆଉ ସେଠାକୁ ଯାଉଥିବା ପାଠକଙ୍କ ଭିତରେ ବାନ୍ଧି ହୋଇ ରହିଯାଇଥିଲା । ତାକୁ ଖୋଲିବାର କଞ୍ଚିକାଠି ସାଜିଲା ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆ । ଏକ ସମୟରେ ଲକ୍ଷ ଲକ୍ଷ ପାଠକଙ୍କ କତିରେ ପହଞ୍ଚିବାର ସରଳ ପନ୍ଥା ଆଉ କଣ ହୋଇପାରେ? ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆର ପ୍ରସଙ୍ଗ ସଂଖ୍ୟା ୧୦ ହଜାରରୁ ଅଧିକ ଓ ମାସିକ ପାଠକ ୫ ଲକ୍ଷରୁ ଅଧିକ । ବହିର ପାଠ ବହି ବାହାରେ ବ୍ୟବହାର ହେବାରେ ପୁଣି ଟାଇପ କରିବାର ଯେଉଁ ବାଧକ ତା' ଏଥିରେ ନାହିଁ । ମଜାର କଥା ଯେ ଅନେକ ସମୟରେ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଭାଷାଭାଷୀ ଉଇକିଆଳିଗଣ (ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆର ସମ୍ପାଦକ)ବେଳେ ବେଳେ ଆପୋଷରେ ଏକ ଆଉଜଣଙ୍କ ଦେଶ-ଭାଷା-ଚଳଣି-ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିତ୍ୱଙ୍କ ସମ୍ବନ୍ଧରେ ଲେଖିବା ଦେଖାଯାଏ । ୨୯୦ରୁ ଅଧିକ ଭାଷାଭାଷୀ ଏମିତି ଅଗଣିତ ଲୋକ ଯେଉଁଠି ମିଶି ଲେଖନ୍ତି ସେଠି ଭାଷାଟିଏ ଯୋଜନ ଯୋଜନ ଡେଇଁ ଜଗତର କୋଣ ଅନୁକୋଣ କେଡ଼େ ସହଜରେ ପହଞ୍ଚିପାରେ ଏ ତା'ର ଏକ ଉଦାହରଣ ।&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3 style="text-align: justify;"&gt;ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉଇକିପାଠାଗାର&lt;/h3&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;ଆମ ଭାଷାରେ ଏଯାବତ କେଇ ଲକ୍ଷ ବହି ଛପାଯାଇସାରିବଣି । ହେଲେ ଏ ସବୁ ବହି କଣ ସଭିଏଁ ପଢ଼ିବାର ସୁଯୋଗ ପାଆନ୍ତି? କାହାପାଖରେ ପାଠାଗାର ଯିବା ପାଇଁ ବେଳ ନାହିଁ ତ ହାତପାହାନ୍ତାରେ ବହି ନ ଥିବାରୁ କିଏ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଛାଡ଼ି ବାକି ଭାଷାର ଲେଖା ପଢ଼ା ଆଦରୁଛି । ଆମ ଭାଷାର ପାଠକ କମି କମି ଯାଉଛନ୍ତି । ସମାଧାନର ପନ୍ଥା କଣ ହୋଇପାରେ? ଆମ ଭାଷା ଖାଲି କଣ ସାହିତ୍ୟ ଆଉ ସାହିତ୍ୟିକଙ୍କ ଭାଷା କି ଲୋକମୁଖର କଥିତ ଭାଷା ହୋଇ ରହିଯିବ? ଆଜିର ପିଢ଼ିଙ୍କ ପାଖରେ ପହଞ୍ଚିବା ଲାଗି ତା'କୁ ମନ ପଢ଼ିବାକୁ, ଜିଣିବାକୁ ହେବ । ଏଥି ପାଇଁ ପ୍ରାଥମିକ କାମଟି ହେଲା ବିରଳ ଓ ଛପା ହେଉନଥିବା ଅନେକ ପୁରାତନ ବହି ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟ ଜରିଆରେ ପାଠକମାନଙ୍କ ନିକଟକୁ ନେବା । ଆମ ଦେଶରେ ଲେଖକଙ୍କ ଦେହାନ୍ତର ୬୦ ବର୍ଷ ପରେ ବହିର କପିରାଇଟ ଚାଲିଯାଏ । ଏଭଳି ପବ୍ଲିକ ଡୋମେନରେ (କପିରାଇଟ ନଥିବା) ବହିସବୁ କେବେ କେବେ ସୀମିତ ସଂଖ୍ୟାରେ ପାଠାଗାରରେ ଥାଏ । ଯଦି ପାଠାଗାରରୁ କୌଣସି କାରଣରୁ ବହିଟି ଚୋରିହୁଏ କି ପୋକ ଖାଇଯାଏ ତାହେଲେ ଲେଖକର ଶ୍ରମର ଦେଉଳ ଭୁସୁଡ଼ିପଡ଼େ । ଯଦି ବହିଟି ଏକରୁ ଅଧିକ ଥର ପ୍ରକାଶ ପାଇଥାଏ ତାହେଲେ ସେକଥା ଭିନ୍ନ । କିନ୍ତୁ ଅନେକ ବହି ଦ୍ୱିତୀୟଥର ଛପାହୁଏନା । ତାକୁ ସାଇତିବାର ସବୁଠୁ ବଡ଼ ବାଟ ହେଉଛି ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟ । ପୁରୁଣା ଓ ବିରଳ ବହିମାନ ଛପାଇବାରେ ଭୁବନେଶ୍ୱରର ସୃଜନିକା ଅନୁଷ୍ଠାନର କାମ ଏକ ଐତିହାସିକ ପଦକ୍ଷେପ । ୧୮୪୦-୧୯୪୦ ଭିତରେ ପ୍ରକାଶିତ ପତ୍ରିକା, ୨୫ରୁ ଅଧିକ ଅଭିଧାନ ତଥା ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣଚନ୍ଦ୍ର ଭାଷାକୋଷ ଭଳି ପୋଥିକୁ ମିଶାଇ ୭୪୦ରୁ ଅଧିକ ବହିକୁ ଡିଜିଟାଲ ରୂପ ଦେବାରେ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଅବଦାନ କାହିଁରେ କେତେ । ହେଲେ ଏ ବହିର ଲେଖାସବୁ ଆଉଥରେ ବ୍ୟବହାର ହେବା, ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ ଖୋଜିପାଇବା ତଥା ମୋବାଇଲ ଆଦିରେ ପଢ଼ିବା ପାଇଁ ଆଉଥରେ ଟାଇପ ହେବା ଜରୁରୀ । ସବୁଯାକ ବହିକୁ ଟାଇପ କରିବା ସମ୍ବବ ନୁହେଁ, ହେଲେ କିଛି କିଛି ବହି ଧୀରେ ଧୀରେ ଟାଇପ ହୋଇପାରିବ । ସେ କାମଟି ଅଧୁନା ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉଇକିପାଠାଗାରରେ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହୋଇଛି । ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ or.wikisource.org ୱେବସାଇଟ ଖୋଲି ପାଠକେ ଏହାକୁ ଖୋଲି ପଢ଼ିପାରିବେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଭାଗବତଠୁ ଆରମ୍ଭ କରି ଭଞ୍ଜ ସାହିତ୍ୟ ଏବଂ ଗୋପବନ୍ଧୁଙ୍କ ପରି ଏ ଯୁଗର ମହାନ ସାହିତ୍ୟିକଙ୍କ ରଚନାବଳୀ । ଏହାର ଲେଖା ସଂଖ୍ୟା ଅଧୁନା ୨୮୫ରୁ ଅଧିକ । ଖାଲି ସେତିକି ନୁହେଁ, ଆଗରୁ ସ୍କାନ ହୋଇ ରହିଥିବା ଅନେକ ବହିକୁ ଆଉଥରେ ଟାଇପ କରିବା କାମ ସଭିଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଖୋଲା । ତେଣୁ ପୁରାତନ ରଚନାର ବିଦଗ୍ଧ ପାଠକଜଣେ ପୂଜୁଥିବା ଲେଖକଙ୍କ ରଚନା ଏଥିରେ ଟାଇପ କରି ସ୍ଥାନୀତ କରିପାରିବ । ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପଟି ଅଣଲାଭକାରୀ, ଆଉ କପିରାଇଟ ନଥିବାରୁ ବହି ସବୁ ଖୋଲାରେ ପାଠକଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଉପଲବ୍ଧ ।&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;ଉପର ଦୁଇ ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପ ତ ଗଲା ବହିର ରକ୍ଷଣାବେକ୍ଷଣା ଆଉ ଜ୍ଞାନକୋଷ ବା ଏନସାଇକ୍ଲୋପିଡ଼ିଆ ଗଢ଼ିବାର କଥା । ହେଲେ ଘଟୁଥିବା ଘଟଣା ଆଉ ଜନମତର ମହତ ମଧ୍ୟ ଉଣା ନୁହେଁ । ଲେଖିବାକୁ କଷ୍ଟ ହେଉ ପଛେ ଆମ ଲୋକେ ଏବେ ଯାଏ ଇଂରାଜୀକୁ କମ୍ପୁଟରର ଭାଷା ମାନି ମୋବାଇଲ ବା ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ କେବଳ ଇଂରାଜୀରେ ଲେଖନ୍ତି । ସାଧାରଣ ଲୋକେ କିପରି ଓଡ଼ିଆରେ ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ ଲେଖିବେ ତା'ର ସଳଖ ବାଟ ଅନେକଙ୍କ ପାଖେ ପହଞ୍ଚି ନଥିବାରୁ ଏ ଅସୁବିଧା । ଘଟୁଥିବା ଘଟଣାବଳୀ ଓ ତହିଁରେ ଜନ-ଅଭିମତକୁ ଭରିବା ଲକ୍ଷରେ ଏକ ବିଶ୍ୱବ୍ୟାପୀ ଆନ୍ଦୋଳନ ହେଉଛି ଗ୍ଲୋବାଲ ଭଏସେସ । ସୌଭାଗ୍ୟର କଥା ଯେ ହିନ୍ଦୀ ଓ ବଙ୍ଗଳା ପରେ ଏଥିରେ ୩ୟ ଭାରତୀୟ ଭାଷା ଭାବେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ସ୍ଥାନୀତ । ଅନେକ ସମୟରେ ନଜର ଆଢ଼ୁଆଳରୁ ଛପି ଯାଉଥିବା ଘଟଣା ଏଥିରେ ପଦାକୁ ଆସେ । ଜଗତର ଅନେକ ଲୋପ ପାଇଯାଉଥିବା ଭାଷା, ଚଳଣିଠୁ ଯୁଦ୍ଧଭୂଇଁରେ ଯୁଝୁଥିବା ଲୋକଙ୍କ କାହାଣୀ ତଥା ସାଧାରଣ ମଣିଷର ସ୍ୱର ଫୁଟିଉଠେ ଏଥିରେ । ଓଡ଼ିଆ ପାଠକଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଖବର ବୋଲି ଯାହା ଖବରକାଗଜରେ ଆସେ ତା ବାହାରେ ଘଟୁଥିବା ଘଟଣା ସହ ପରିଚିତି ଲାଭ ପାଇଁ ଏ ଏକ ବଡ଼ ମାଧ୍ୟମ ହୋଇପାରେ । ଏହା or.globalvoices.org ରେ ଉପଲବ୍ଧ । ଏ ମଧ୍ୟ ଏକ ସ୍ୱେଚ୍ଛାସେବୀ ପରିଚାଳିତ ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପ ଯାହାର ଦୁଆର କିଛି ପରିମାଣରେ ଭାଷା ଦକ୍ଷତା ଥିବା ଲେଖକଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଖୋଲା ।&lt;/p&gt;

        &lt;b&gt;Though not an open source solution, Google's OCR works really well for Odia and other Indian languages. My column in the Odia daily the Samaja that was published last Saturday briefs about how the OCR works and has a step-by-step process to use it. There is also a little bit of background of Tesseract-based OCR that Debayan Banerjee worked in the past and Nasim Ali from the Odia Wikimedia community is currently working.&lt;/b&gt;

&lt;p style="text-align: justify; "&gt;ଜଣାଶୁଣା ବ୍ୟକ୍ତି, ବିଷୟ, ଘଟଣା, ସ୍ଥାନ ଆଦି ବିଷୟରେ ସଂକ୍ଷେପରେ ଲେଖିବା ପାଇଁ ଏନସାଇକ୍ଲୋପିଡ଼ିଆ ବା ଜ୍ଞାନକୋଷର ପରିକଳ୍ପନା। ତାକୁ ପୁଣି ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟର ଉପଲବ୍ଧ କରିବା ପାଇଁ 2001ରେ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହେଲା ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆ। ପ୍ରଥମେ ଇଂରାଜୀରେ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହୋଇ ପରେ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଭାଷାକୁ ଏହା ବଢ଼ିଲା। ଆଉ ଇଂରାଜୀ ଉ ଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହବାର ବର୍ଷଟିଏ ପରେ 2002 ମସିହାରେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ, ଅହମିୟା, ପଞ୍ଜାବୀ ଓ ମାଲାୟାଲାମ ଭାଷାରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହେଲା। ପ୍ରଥମ ଚାରୋଟି ଭାରତୀୟ ଭାଷାରେ ତିଆରି ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆ ଭିତରୁ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଗୋଟେ ବୋଲି ଅନେକଙ୍କୁ ଆଜି ବି ଅଜଣା। ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ https://or.wikipedia.org ରେ ଉପଲବ୍ଧ। ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆ ପାଖାପାଖି 9 ବର୍ଷ ଧରି ସକ୍ରିୟ ସମ୍ପାଦନାର ଅଭାବରୁ 2011 ଯାଏ ଏକ ରକମ ନିଷ୍କ୍ରିୟ ହୋଇ ପଡ଼ିରହିଥିଲା। 2011ରେ ଏଥିରେ ଅନେକ ସ୍ବେଚ୍ଛାସେବୀ ସମ୍ପାଦକ ବଉଇକିଆଳିମାନେ ଯୋଡ଼ିହୋଇ ଲେଖିବା ଆରମ୍ଭ କରିବା ଫଳରେ ଅଧୁନା ଏଥିରେ 10,619 ସଂଖ୍ୟକ ପ୍ରସଙ୍ଗ ଲେଖାସରିଲାଣି। ଆଉ ନିତି ନୂଆ ନୂଆ ଲେଖା ଏଥିରେ ଯୋଡ଼ିହୋଇ ଚାଲିଛି।&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify; "&gt;ତେବେ ଜଣେ ସାଧାରଣ ପାଠକ ପାଇଁ ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆରେ କ’ଣ ରହିଛି ତାହା ଜାଣିବା ବେଶି ଜରୁରୀ। ଜ୍ଞାନ ଆହରଣର ବାଟ ପିଢ଼ିରୁ ପିଢ଼ିକୁ ବଦଳେ। ଆମ ପିଲାବେଳେ ଆମେ କାଁ ଭାଁ କମ୍ପ୍ୟୁଟର ଓ ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟର ସୁବିଧା ପାଉଥିଲୁ। ଆଉ ସେତେବେଳେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ମିଡିୟମ ସ୍କୁଲର ପାଠାଗାର କିଛି ଗପ ଉପନ୍ୟାସ ବହି ଭିତରେ ସୀମିତ ଥିଲା। ନୂଆ ବହିଟିଏ ଦେଖିବା ଆଗରୁ କାନ୍ଥରୁ ଚୂନ ଝଡ଼ିପଡୁଥିଲା। ହେଲେ ଏବେ ଘରେଘେ ଏକାଧିକ ମୋବାଇଲ ଆଉ ସେସବୁ ପୁଣି ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟ ସୁବିଧା ଥିବା ସ୍ମାର୍ଟଫୋନ ଆସିଲାଣି। ସ୍କୁଲ ପିଲାଏ ଆଉ କିଛି କରନ୍ତୁ ନ କରନ୍ତୁ କିନ୍ତୁ ଗେମ ଖେଳିବା କି ଫେସବୁକ ଆଦିରେ ସାଙ୍ଗମାନଙ୍କ ସଙ୍ଗେ ଚାଟିଂ ଆଦି କରିବାରେ ପୋକ ହେଲେଣି। ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟ କମ୍ପ୍ୟୁଟରରୁ ସମ୍ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ମୋବାଇଲମୁଖୀ ହୋଇଗଲାଣି। ପିଲାଙ୍କଠୁ ବଡ଼ ଯାଏ କାହା ପାଖେ ଆଉ ଏନସାଇକ୍ଲୋପିଡ଼ିଆ ବ୍ରିଟାନିକା ଭଳି ଓଜନିଆ ପୋଥି ଦେଇ କିଛି ଖୋଜିବା ପାଇଁ ବେଳ ନାହିଁ। ତେଣୁ ଏଭଳି ପରିସ୍ଥିତିରେୌଣସି ବିଷୟକୁ ଅଧିକ ଲୋକାଭିମୁଖୀ କରିବାର ସୁବିଧା ବାଟ ହେଉଛି ସେସବୁକୁ ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ ଉପଲବ୍ଧ କରାଇବା। ତେବେ ଏହା ବହି ବା ଜର୍ଣ୍ଣାଲର ବିକଳ୍ପ ନୁହେଁ। ବରଂ ବହି ସଙ୍ଗେ ଭିନ୍ନ ଏକ ମାଧ୍ୟମରେ ଜ୍ଞାନ ବିତରଣର ବାଟ ରୂପରେ ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟ ଅଧିକରୁ ଅଧିକ ଲୋକଙ୍କ ପାଖେ ପହଞ୍ଚିପାରୁଛି।&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify; "&gt;ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଭାଷାରେ ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ ଜ୍ଞାନ ଆହରଣର ସ୍ଥିତି ଭିନ୍ନ। ତେବେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ପାଇଁ ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟର ଅବସ୍ଥା ଯେତେ ଚିନ୍ତାଜନକ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଭାଷାକୁ ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ ଅଧିକ ବ୍ୟବହାର ଉପଯୋଗୀ କରିବା ସେତେ ଅଧିକ ଲୋଡ଼ା। 2011 ଜନଗଣନା ତଥ୍ୟ ଅନୁସାରେ ଓଡ଼ିଶାରେ ମାତ୍ର 1.4 ଭାଗ ଲୋକଙ୍କ ପାଖେ ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟର ସୁବିଧା ଥିଲା। ଏହି ପାଞ୍ଚ ବର୍ଷ ଭିତରେ ଏହା ବହୁ ଅଧିକ ବଢ଼ିଥିବ। ହେଲେ ସେ ସଭିଏଁ କ’ଣ ସତରେ ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟର ବ୍ୟବହାର କରୁଛନ୍ତି ନା ସୀମିତ କେତୋଟି ସାଇଟ ଭିତରେ ସୀମିତ। ଅଧିକାଂଶ ତଥାକଥିତ ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟ ବ୍ୟବହାରକାରୀ ଫେସବୁକରେ ସାଙ୍ଗମାନଙ୍କ ସଙ୍ଗେ ଭାବ ଦିଆନିଆ କି ହୁଆଟସଆପରେ ପରିଚିତଙ୍କ ସଙ୍ଗେ ଆଳାପ ଅଥବା ଇଉଟିଉବରୁ ଗୀତ ଶୁଣିବା ବାହାରେ ବେଶୀ କିଛି ଜାଣନ୍ତି ନାହିଁ। ଏହାର ମୁଖ୍ୟ କାରଣ ହେଉଛି ସେମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ସବୁଠୁ ବେଶୀ ପରିଚିତ ଭାଷା ଓଡ଼ିଆରେ ବେଶୀ ୱେବସାଇଟ ନାହିଁ। ଖବର ପଢ଼ାଳିଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ନା ଭଲ ଖବର ୱେବସାଇଟଟିଏ ରହିଛି ନା ଗବେଷକଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଆମ ଐତିହ୍ୟ ଓ ପୁରୁଣା ଶିଳ୍ପ ବାବଦରେ ପଢ଼ିବା ପାଇଁ ଆମ ମିଉଜିଅମ ୱେବସାଇଟରେ ସମସ୍ତ କଳାକୃତିର ତଥ୍ୟ ଓଡ଼ିଆରେ ଦିଆଯାଇଛି। ସେମିତି ଭିନ୍ନ ଭିନ୍ନ ବିଷୟରେ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ବିଷୟ ଜାଣିବା ପାଇଁ ଓଡ଼ିଆରେ ନିହାତି ଦରକାରୀ ବିଷୟ ମଧ୍ୟ ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ ନାହିଁ। ଏଭଳି ଓଡ଼ିଆରେ ପ୍ରକାଶିତ କେଇଶହ ଖବରକାଗଜ ଭିତରୁ କେବଳ ଗୋଟେ କାଗଜର ଖବରଗୁଡ଼ିକ ଇଣଟରନେଟରେ ଖୋଜି ପାଇହେବ। କାରଣ ବାକି ଖବରକାଗଜର ଲେଖା ଇଉନିକୋଡ଼ ଭଳି ଆନ୍ତର୍ଜାତିକ ମାନକକୁ ନ ଆପଣାଇ ଆକୃତି, ଶ୍ରୀଲିପି ଆଦି ପୁରୁଣାକାଳିଆ ଅଣ-ମାନକ ସଫ୍ଟଓଏରରେ ଲେଖି ଛବି ଭାବେ କିମ୍ବା ପିଡିଏଫ ଡକୁମେଣ୍ଟ ଭାବେ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ସାଇଟରେ ଉପଲବ୍ଧ। ସେଗୁଡ଼ିକ ଦେଖିବାକୁ ଭିନ୍ନ ନ ଲାଗିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଗୁଗୁଲ ବା ସର୍ଚ ଇଞ୍ଜିନରେ ଓଡ଼ିଆରେ ଟାଇପ କରି ଖୋଜିହୁଏ ନାହିଁ କିମ୍ବା ମୋବାଇଲ ଆଦିରେ ସଳଖେ ପଢ଼ିହୁଏ ନାହିଁ।&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify; "&gt;ଓଡ଼ିଆରେ 1930 ମସିହାରେ ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣଚନ୍ଦ୍ର ଭାଷାକୋଷ ଭଳି ବିଶାଳ ଜ୍ଞାନକୋଷ ରଚନା କାମ ଆଜିଯାଏ ଆଉ କିଛି ହୋଇପାରିନାହିଁ। ଆଧୁନିକ ଟେକନୋଲୋଜି ବ୍ ୟବହାର କରି ଏବେ ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆ ଅତୀତ ସହ ସନ୍ଧିଟିଏ ତିଆରି କରିପାରିବ। ଏହା ସମ୍ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଭାବେ ଅଣ-ଲାଭକାରୀ ଓ ଏଥିରେ ବିଜ୍ଞାପନ ନ ଥାଏ। ଏଥିରେ ଲେଖାଗୁଡ଼ିକ ଲେଖୁଥିବା ଉଇକିଆଳିଏ ସଭିଏଁ ସ୍ବେଚ୍ଛାସେବୀ ଓ ଲେଖାସବୁ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ସତ୍ବାଧ‍କାରରେ ପ୍ରକାଶିତ। ତେବେ ଜ୍ଞାନ ବିତରଣ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ତିଆରି ହୋଇଥିବାରୁ ଲେଖାସବୁ କପିରାଇଟ ଦେଇ ନ ରୋକିବା ଲାଗି ସେସବୁ କ୍ରିଏଟିଭ କମନ୍ସ ସେଆର-ଏଲାଇକ ଲାଇସେନ୍ସରେ ବିତରିତ। ଫଳରେ ସଭିଏଁ ମାଗଣାରେ ପଢ଼ିପାରିବେ , ପ୍ରସଙ୍ଗଗୁଡ଼ିକ ପୁନଃବ୍ୟବହାର କରିପାରିବେ ଓ ଉଭୟ ଲାଭକାରୀ ଓ ଅଣଲାଭକାରୀ କାମରେ ବ୍ୟବହାର କରିପାରିବେ। ଏଥି ସହିତ କୌଣସି ଲେଖାରେ ଭୁଲ ପାଇଲେ ଜଣେ ଲେଖା ସମ୍ପାଦନା କରି ସୁଧାରିପାରିବେ। ଏଥିରେ ଲେଖା ଓ ସମ୍ପାଦନା ପଦ୍ଧତି ଏତେ ଖୋଲା ଯେ ପ୍ରାୟ ସବୁ ଲେଖା ଏକ ନୁହେଁ ଅନେକ ଲୋକଙ୍କ ଦେଇ ଏକାଠି ଲିଖିତ। ତେବେ ଲେଖାର ମାନରେ ସମତା ରଖିବା ନିମନ୍ତେ କେତେଗୁଡ଼ିଏ ନିୟମାବଳୀ ତିଆରି ହୋଇଛି। ଏଗୁଡ଼ିକ 293ଟି ଭାଷାରେ ଉପଲବ୍ଧ ସବୁ ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆ ପାଇଁ ମୋଟାମଟି ଏକା ହେଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଭିନ୍ନ ଭିନ୍ନ ଭାଷାଭାଷୀ ଉଇକିଆଳିଗଣ ନିଜ ଭାଷା ଓ ସମାଜର ଆବଶ୍ୟକତାକୁ ଆଖିରେ ରଖି ସେଗୁଡ଼ିକୁ ସାମାନ୍ୟ ବଦଳାଇଛନ୍ତି। ବିଭିନ୍ନ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିବିଶେଷଙ୍କ ବାବଦରେ କିମ୍ବା ଘଟଣା ବାବଦରେ ଲିଖିତ ପ୍ରସଙ୍ଗ ଏକପାଖିଆ ନ ହୋଇ ନିରପେକ୍ଷ ଭାବେ ଲେଖିବା ଏହି ନିୟମାବଳୀ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଏକ ମୁଖ୍ୟ ନିୟମ। ସେହି ଭଳି ନିଜ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଗତ ମତ ବଦଳରେ କେବଳ ପ୍ରକାଶିତ ତଥ୍ୟ ଲେଖିବା ଆଉ ଏକ ନିୟମ। ସବୁଠାରୁ ମଜାର କଥା ହେଲା ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆ କୌଣସି ଦେଶ ବା ସଙ୍ଗଠ ଅଧୀନରେ ନ ଥାଇ ଏହା ଉପରେ ପ୍ରତିଟି ଉଇକିଆଳିଙ୍କ ସମାନ ଅଧିକାର ରହିଛି। ପୁଣି ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଭିତରେ ସେମାନଙ୍କ କାମକୁ ନେଇ ଦାୟିତ୍ବ ବଣ୍ଟାଯାଇଛି। ବିବାଦ ଉପୁଜିଲେ ବି ସୁଧାରିବାକୁ ରହିଛି କିଛି ସ୍ବେଚ୍ଛାସେବୀଙ୍କୁ ନେଇ ତିଆରି କମିଟିମାନ।&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify; "&gt;ତେବେ ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆରେ ଥିବା ସବୁଯାକ ଲେଖାକୁ ଆଖିବୁଜି ଗ୍ରହଣ କରାଯାଇପାରିବ ନାହିଁ। କାରଣ ପ୍ୟାରିସ ଉପରେ ଥିବା ଲେଖାଟି ଶହେ କି ହଜାରେ ଲୋକ ମିଶି ଲେଖିଥିବା ବେଳେ ଭୁବନେଶ୍ବର ଉପରେ ଥିବା ଲେଖାଟି ହାତଗଣତି କେତେ ଜଣ ହୁଏତ ଲେଖିଥିବେ। ଯେଉଁ ଲେଖା ଯେତେ ଅଧିକ ଅଭିଜ୍ଞତା ଥିବା ଲୋକଙ୍କ ଦେଇ ଯେତେ ଘସାମଜା ହୋଇ ଲେଖାହୋଇଥିବ ସେ ଲେଖା ସେତେ ଉଜ୍ଜଳ ହୋଇ ଚମକୁଥିବ। ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଓ ଓଡ଼ିଶା ସମ୍ବନ୍ଧିତ ଲେଖାସବୁରୁ ଇଂରାଜୀ ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଭଲ ଲେଖା ଖୋଜି ପାଇବା କଷ୍ଟ। ଆଉ ଓଡ଼ିଆରେ ଲେଖୁଥିବା ଉଇକିଆଳିଙ୍କ ସଂଖ୍ୟା ପାଖାପାଖି 30 ଭିତରେ। ସାଢ଼େ ଚାରିକୋଟି ଓଡ଼ିଆଙ୍କ ଭିତରୁ ଯଦି ଏତେ କମ ଲୋକ ଏତେ ବଡ଼ କାମର ବୋଝ ଉଠାଉଥିବେ ତେହେଲେ ସବୁ ଲେଖାର ମାନ ଯେ ଏକା ଭଳି ଓ ସବୁ ଲେଖାରେ ଆବଶ୍ୟକ ସବୁ ତଥ୍ୟ ମିଳିବ ତା’ର ମାନେ ନାହିଁ। ତେଣୁ କେବେ କେବେ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ମେଳା ମଉଛବକୁ ଧ ରି ଲେଖାଳିଏ ମିଶି ଗୋଟେ ବିଷୟରେ ଅଧିକ ଲେଖା ଲେଖିବା ପାଇଁ ଗଣ-ସମ୍ପାଦନା କରନ୍ତି। ଜଗନ୍ନାଥ ଚଳଣି ଉପରେ ଲିଖିତ ପ୍ରସଙ୍ଗସବୁ ନବକଳେବର ସମୟରେ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଖବରକାଗଜ ଓ ପତ୍ରିକା ଆଦିରୁ ତଥ୍ୟ ସଂଗ୍ରହ କରି ବହୁଭାବେ ଉନ୍ନତ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା। ଏବେ ଏ ପ୍ରସଙ୍ଗସବୁ ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆର ବାକି ପ୍ରସଙ୍ଗ ସବୁଠାରୁ ଅଧିକ ତଥ୍ୟରେ ଭରା। ଏଥିରେ ଲେଖିବାକୁ ଆଗ୍ରହୀ ଓଡ଼ିଆମାନେ https://or.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:CS ପୃଷ୍ଠାରେ ଦିଆଯାଇଥିବା ସରଳ ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦେଶ ପଢ଼ି ନିଜେ ମଧ୍ୟ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ସ୍ଥାନ ଅନ୍ୟାନ୍ୟ ବିଷୟରେ ଲେଖିପାରିବେ।&lt;/p&gt;

        &lt;b&gt;Noted Odia-language author and art historian Dr Jagannath Prasad Das has donated 30 volumes of his books under CC-by-SA 4.0 so that  the books could now be digitised in Odia Wikisource.&lt;/b&gt;
        
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Earlier Bhubaneswar based non-profit Srujanika had donated over 700 books. Two hundred and nineteen books including entire Odia Bhagabata and many other classics have already been digitised on Odia Wikisource. The collection is growing slowly with more books being digitised by volunteer Wikisourcers.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;ଭୁବନେଶ୍ୱର 25-10 (ଓଡ଼ିଆ ପୁଅ) ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉଇକିପାଠାଗାର ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ  https://or.wikisource.org ଠାରେ ଉପଲବ୍ଧ ଏକ ଖୋଲା ଅନଲାଇନ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ପାଠାଗାର। ଏହା  ସ୍ୱେଚ୍ଛାସେବୀମାନଙ୍କ ଦେଇ ପରିଚାଳିତ ଓ ଏଥିରେ ଅନେକ ଉପାଦେୟ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ବହି ବିଶେଷ କରି  କପିରାଇଟ ସରିଯାଇଥିବା ବହିସବୁ ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ ପଢ଼ିବା ପାଇଁ ମିଳିଥାଏ। ଗତ ବର୍ଷ  ଅକ୍ଟୋବର ୨୦ ତାରିଖରେ ଜନ୍ମ ନେଇଥିବା ଏହି ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପକୁ ଏହି ମାତ୍ର ବର୍ଷେ ପୂରିବା  ଭିତରେ ୨୧୯ ଖଣ୍ଡ ବହି ଏଥିରେ ଡିଜିଟାଲ ରୂପ ନେଇସାରିଲାଣି। ଆସନ୍ତା କାଲି (୨୫ ତାରିଖ)  ୫ ଘଟିକା ସମୟରେ ଭୁବନେଶ୍ୱର ସ୍ଥିତ ଇନଷ୍ଟିଚ୍ୟୁଟ ଅନ ମ୍ୟାନେଜମେଣ୍ଟ ଅଫ  ଆଗ୍ରିକଲଚରାଲ ଏକ୍ସଟେନସନ (ଇମେଜ) ଠାରେ ଏହାର ପ୍ରଥମ ଜନ୍ମତିଥି ପାଳିତ ହେବାକୁ  ଯାଉଛି। ଏହି ଅବସରରେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉଇକିମିଡ଼ିଆ ସଂଘ ତରଫରୁ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଭାଷା ଓ ପାଠାଗାର  ଆନ୍ଦୋଳନରେ ଆଗ୍ରହୀ ସଭିଙ୍କୁ ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପର ପରିଚାଳକ ମୃତ୍ୟୁଞ୍ଜୟ କର ଆମନ୍ତ୍ରଣ  କରିଛନ୍ତି। ଏଥିରେ ସେ ଓ ସହକର୍ମୀ ଶୁଭାଶିଷ ପାଣିଗ୍ରାହୀ ଉଇକିପାଠାଗାର ସମ୍ବନ୍ଧରେ ଏକ  ସବିଶେଷ ବିବରଣି ପ୍ରଦାନ କରିବେ। ୧୮୫୦ରୁ ୧୯୫୦ ଭିତରେ ଛପା ସମସ୍ତ ଓଡ଼ିଆ  ପତ୍ରପତ୍ରିକା ସମେତ ପାଖାପାଖି ଦେଢ଼ଲକ୍ଷ ବହି ଡିଜିଟାଇଜ କରିଥିବା ବିଜ୍ଞାନ ଓ ଗବେଷଣା  ଅନୁଷ୍ଠାନ "ସୃଜନିକା" ତରଫରୁ ଡ ପୁଷ୍ପଶ୍ରୀ ପଟ୍ଟନାୟକ ଏଥିରେ ସୃଜନିକାର ଲମ୍ବା  ଯାତ୍ରା ବାବଦରେ ଏକ ଅଭିଭାଷଣ ରଖିବେ। ଏହା ପରେ ପ୍ରଫେସର ଯତୀନ ନାୟକଙ୍କ ଅଧ୍ୟକ୍ଷତାରେ  "ଓଡ଼ିଆରେ ଡିଜିଟାଲ ପାଠାଗାର ଆନ୍ଦୋଳନ" ବାବଦରେ ହେବାକୁ ଥିବା ଏକ ଆଲୋଚନାଚକ୍ରରେ  ସମଦୃଷ୍ଟି ଅନୁଷ୍ଠାନ ତରଫରୁ ସୁଧିର ପଟ୍ଟନାୟକ ଓ ଶିକ୍ଷାସନ୍ଧାନ ତରଫରୁ ଅନୀଲ ପ୍ରଧାନ  ଯୋଗଦେବେ। ଉଇକିମିଡ଼ିଆ ଫାଉଣ୍ଡେସନର ଅନେକ ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉଇକିପାଠାଗାର ଏକ ଓ  ଏହା ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆର ଏକ ସହଯୋଗୀ ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପ। ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଭାଷା, ସାହିତ୍ୟ ଓ ପାଠାଗାର  ଆନ୍ଦୋଳନରେ ଏହା ଏକ ସକ୍ରିୟ ଭୂମିକା ନିର୍ବାହ କରିବାକୁ ଯାଉଛି। "ଅନେକ ରଚନା  ତାଳପତ୍ରରେ ଓ ପୁସ୍ତକ ଆକାରରେ ଲିପିବଦ୍ଧ ହୋଇଥିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଧୀରେ ଧୀରେ କାଳ ଗର୍ଭରେ  ସେଗୁଡ଼ିକ ଲୋପ ପାଇଯାଉଛନ୍ତି। ଇଣ୍ଟରନେଟରେ ଆମ ଭାଷାର ମୁଲ୍ୟଭାନ ଅନେକ ରଚନା  ଡିଜିଟାଇଜ କରି ଦୀର୍ଘକାଳ ନିମନ୍ତେ ରକ୍ଷା କରିବା ଓ ସାଇତି ରଖିବା ଆମର ପ୍ରଚେଷ୍ଟା",  କହନ୍ତି ଜଣେ ସକ୍ରିୟ ଉଇକିଆଳି ଡ ସୁବାସଚନ୍ଦ୍ର ରାଉତ। ଇଂରାଜୀରେ ଏହା ଉଇକିସୋର୍ସ  ନାମରେ ଜଣା ଓ ୨୦୦୫ରୁ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହୋଇଥିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉଇକିପାଠାଗାର ମାତ୍ର ଏକ ବର୍ଷ  ହେଲା ଏହି ଦିଗରେ ସଶ୍ରମ ପ୍ରଚେଷ୍ଟା ଜାରି ରଖିଛି। ସ୍ୱେଚ୍ଛାସେବୀମାନଙ୍କ ଅକୁଣ୍ଠ  ଶ୍ରମ ପ୍ରଦାନ ଫଳରେ ସ୍ଵତ୍ତ୍ଵାଧିକାର ବାଧା ନ ଥିବା ଅନେକ ପୁସ୍ତକ ଡିଜିଟାଇଜ ହୋଇ  ଉଇକିପାଠାଗାର ପୃଷ୍ଠା ମଣ୍ଡନ କରୁଛନ୍ତି।&lt;/p&gt;

    <title>Asian Athletics Championships 2017 Edit-a-thon</title>

        &lt;b&gt;Odia Wikipedians, in conjunction with Indian Athletics Federation and Sports and Youth Services collaborated to document the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships. Hundreds of photos were uploaded and new Wikipedia content added to inform the event’s fans. &lt;/b&gt;
        
&lt;p&gt;The Asian Athletics Championships is an intra-continental sports event organized bi-annually since 1973. The &lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Asian_Athletics_Championships"&gt;22nd championship&lt;/a&gt; was held in July at the &lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalinga_Stadium"&gt;Kalinga Stadium&lt;/a&gt;
 in Bhubaneswar, India, where 655 athletes from 41 countries 
participated in 21 games. The Odia Wikipedia community worked with the 
event organizers in different ways, to document the event on Wikipedia, 
by holding edit-a-thons (editing workshops), to improve Wikipedia’s 
content about the championships and releasing official photos of the 
event under free Creative Commons licenses.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The original plan was for the Indian city of Ranchi, Jharkhand to 
host the 2017 athletics, but plans changed 90 days before the event when
 Bhubaneswar was selected as a venue instead. Preparing the Kalinga 
Stadium and getting ready for the championships in that short period was
 a challenge for the organizers. However, the state government of Odisha
 stepped in to assist, and as part of that freely shared the event 
website content under Creative Commons licenses.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The local Wikipedia community, along with the WikiTungi project in 
Bhubaneswar, were invited by R. Vineel Krishna, the State Department’s 
Director of Sports and Youth Services, to organize an edit-a-thon for 
the Championships. The scope was to improve Wikipedia’s content about 
the participating Asian athletes.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Before the event, existing Wikipedia articles provided little 
information on the biographies and accomplishments of some of the 
participating athletes. Odia Wikipedians collaborated with the Sports 
and Youth Services Department of Odisha to bridge the dearth of 
information.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Edit-a-thon participants &lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Asian_Athletics_Championships_2017_Edit-a-thon"&gt;gathered&lt;/a&gt; at the office of CSM Technologies, an event partner for the championships. Fifteen Wikimedians from Bhubaneswar and Puri &lt;a href="https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiTungi"&gt;WikiTungi&lt;/a&gt;, with some CSM staff members and new editors participated in the edit-a-thon.&lt;/p&gt;

The collection includes images of the athletes during their Heats, 
Semi Finals, Final, and Medal ceremonies of all four days. 127 images 
are used in 269 pages on Wikipedia in 27 languages, and many articles

WikiProject &lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Women_in_Red"&gt;Women in Red&lt;/a&gt; used the images in many female athlete articles. The Odia Wikipedia community and the &lt;a href="https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K"&gt;Centre for Internet and Society&lt;/a&gt; are also planning to work with the &lt;a href="https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Asian_Month"&gt;Wikipedia Asian Month&lt;/a&gt; competition to use these images to illustrate Wikipedia articles they work on, in their next edition.&lt;a href="https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Victuallers"&gt; Victuallers&lt;/a&gt;, one of the volunteers of &lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Women_in_Red"&gt;Women in Red&lt;/a&gt; project, identified athlete photos from the &lt;a href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/category:Images_from_Odisha2017.games"&gt;games website collection&lt;/a&gt; and used them to illustrate their articles. He has also created new articles of other participating female athletes.

&lt;p&gt;The event started with a basic Wikipedia orientation session for new 
participants. There was no Wikipedia article for the championships in 
Odia language, so participants created it in addition to improving the 
English Wikipedia article. Along with that, 10 new articles were 
improved and created on both Odia and English Wikipedia. The 2017 
Championships page on the English Wikipedia received over &lt;a href="https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&amp;amp;platform=all-access&amp;amp;agent=user&amp;amp;start=2017-07-03&amp;amp;end=2017-07-09&amp;amp;pages=2017_Asian_Athletics_Championships"&gt;100,000 views&lt;/a&gt; during the championships week.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;“Wikipedia has been the one-stop source of knowledge for me,” says &lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Impulsion_gods"&gt;Alankar Devta&lt;/a&gt;,
 an edit-a-thon participant. “It has helped me learn a lot and prepare 
for competitions. This is the first time, I got a chance to take part in
 any Wikipedia edit-a-thon. Apart from that, the articles about the 
athletes taking part in this year’s Championships are of great help for 
the readers who may want to search for the athletes with expectations to
 find useful information about them.”&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Wikimedia community members were offered passes to attend the opening
 ceremony and take photos. We spent four hours taking photos of the 41 
participating teams, athletes and cultural events. All were &lt;a href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Opening_Ceremony-_22nd_Asian_Athletics_Championships"&gt;uploaded to Wikimedia Commons&lt;/a&gt;. Nearly &lt;a href="http://tools.wmflabs.org/glamtools/glamorous.php?doit=1&amp;amp;category=Opening+Ceremony-+22nd+Asian+Athletics+Championships&amp;amp;use_globalusage=1&amp;amp;ns0=1&amp;amp;projects%5Bwikipedia%5D=1"&gt;19% of the photos&lt;/a&gt; taken at the opening ceremony are used on Wikipedia articles.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;A major outcome of the edit-a-thon was releasing the content and 
images of the championship’s official website under a Creative Commons 
license. 286 images from the websites &lt;a href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/category:Images_from_Odisha2017.games"&gt;were added to Wikimedia Commons&lt;/a&gt;, of which 47.2% are used on Wikipedia in several languages.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;“I have worked with the Women in Red project since it started,” says&amp;nbsp;&lt;a href="https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Victuallers"&gt;Victuallers&lt;/a&gt;.
 “Over the past two years, we have helped raise the percentage [of 
female biographies on the English Wikipedia] from 15.5 to 17%. One of 
the things that hold us back, though, is that women are less likely to 
have images available. It’s, therefore, amazing to find that a major 
athletic event has released hundreds of images with a CC BY-SA license. 
Participating athletes are all notable and women are fairly well 
represented. I have downloaded over 100 pictures and cropped group 
photos to create portraits. We’ve been tweeting the new articles and 
pictures on &lt;a href="https://twitter.com/WikiWomenInRed"&gt;@WikiWomenInRed&lt;/a&gt; and trying to encourage all to “one up” the Odisha people. It’s a great success and we need more people to follow suit.”&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;With such collaborative spirit from the Government institutes, the 
Odia community is planning to get more content from Odisha under a free 
license. The community has also partnered with the Bhubaneswar 
Development Authority, to run a global edit-a-thon named &lt;a href="https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Bhubaneswar_Heritage_Edit-a-thon"&gt;Bhubaneswar Heritage Editathon&lt;/a&gt;, for documenting the culture and heritage monuments of the city.&lt;/p&gt;

    <title>Another 5 Years: What Have We Learned about the Wikipedia Gender Gap and What Has Been Done? (Part 3.)</title>

        &lt;b&gt;Five years after Wikimedia Foundation’s 2011 editor survey was conducted and revealed the gender gap issue, scholars, practitioners, and communities around the globe have come a long way to address the gender imbalance of the online encyclopedia. This blog post series (of three parts) serve as a summary of movements and discoveries in Wikipedia gender gap narrowing on both local (India) and global scales.&lt;/b&gt;
        
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;This is the third
(last) part of the blog series, please see &lt;a class="external-link" href="http://cis-india.org/a2k/blogs/another-5-years-what-have-we-learned-about-the-wikipedia-gender-gap-and-what-has-been-done-part-1"&gt;Part 1 &lt;/a&gt;and &lt;a class="external-link" href="http://cis-india.org/a2k/blogs/another-5-years-what-have-we-learned-about-the-wikipedia-gender-gap-and-what-has-been-done-part-2"&gt;Part 2&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Responding to the
Wikipedia gender gap problem, former WMF Executive Director Sue Gardner set a
target in 2011 to raise the female editor percentage &lt;a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/31/business/media/31link.html"&gt;to 25%&lt;/a&gt; by 2015. In an &lt;a href="http://www.bbc.com/news/business-28701772"&gt;interview&lt;/a&gt; in August 2014, Jimmy Wales declared that “&lt;em&gt;we’ve completely failed,&lt;/em&gt;” Gardner also
noted that the solutions should come from local Wikipedian communities rather
than from the Foundation on a macro scale.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Although the
target was not met, initiatives and reforms taken places globally and locally in
the past five years are not fruitless. And as mentioned in Part 2, we should
not define this movement as merely pursuing a goal towards certain percentage
or number. As for now dialogue has been created to include the issue into more strategic
plans; collectives are established to cumulate and share resources across
communities. There has been abundance of learning (and definitely much more to
learn) in the issue.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;What has been done?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Be it ongoing or spontaneous, international or local, there have been
many interventions trying to address the gender gap in Wikipedia.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;u&gt;Intervention events&lt;em&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;In July 2015, WikiProject
&lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Women_in_Red"&gt;Women in Red&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span class="MsoHyperlink"&gt; (WiR)&lt;/span&gt; was launched to &lt;em&gt;“turn "&lt;a title="Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Redlist index" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Women_in_Red/Redlist_indexhttps:/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Women_in_Red/Redlist_index"&gt;redlinks&lt;/a&gt;
(non-existing pages) into&amp;nbsp;&lt;a title="Wikilink" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikilink"&gt;blue ones&lt;/a&gt; (existing pages).” &lt;/em&gt;&amp;nbsp;The project encourages editors worldwide to
create (or expand) female-related pages (biographies, women’s work,
contribution, issues, etc.) that fit the notability criteria of Wikipedia. WiR
also picks monthly and annual topics to feature. Currently in September, 2016,
edit-a-thons on Women in nursing and women labour activists are happening
online. And “Women scientists” edit-a-thon is a year-long featured topic for
2016. Although WiR is still primarily an English-WP project, some communities
have expanded and localized it to local initiatives.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Coincidentally, in
2013, Indian Wikipedian communities have carried out one of the biggest and
most well-known gender gap intervention – &lt;a href="https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Lilavati%27s_Daughters_Edit-a-thon"&gt;Lilavatis’
Daughters&lt;/a&gt;. “Lilavati’s Daughters” is &lt;a href="http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-features/tp-literaryreview/forgotten-daughters/article662225.ece"&gt;a
book&lt;/a&gt; of essay collections featuring nearly one hundred women scientists in Indian
since the Victorian Era. The 2013 edit-a-thon was hence to create Wikipedia
pages for these biographies in different Indian languages. Collaborating with
institutions and colleges, the event was greeted with high popularity and
success. Similar events were also carried out afterwards, including &lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Indian_Women_in_Science_Edit-a-thon"&gt;Indian
Women in Science Edit-a-thon&lt;/a&gt; which has been held annually since 2014; the
last event was held in July, 2016 at the Indian Institute of Science,
Bangalore.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Another
significant initiative across the globe and in Indian communities is the annual
&lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiWomen%27s_History_Month"&gt;Wikiwomen’s history
month&lt;/a&gt; in March along with the celebration of International Women’s Day on March
8&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt;. The initiative started in 2012, edit-a-thons, photo-thons
(updating photos onto Wikimedia Commons), and meetups have been held to raise
the awareness of the gender gap online, create female-related content available
on Wikipedia, and to strengthen the bonding between local Wikiwomen.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Recently,
Wikimedia Foundation collaborated with the United Nations to launch the one-day
&lt;a href="https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/UN_Women_Her_Story"&gt;Her Story project&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span class="MsoHyperlink"&gt; Edit-a-thon&lt;/span&gt; on August 12&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt;, 2016 to celebrate International Youth Day
globally. Cities in India like &lt;a href="https://www.empowerwomen.org/en/campaigns/herstory"&gt;Chennai and Delhi
also held local edit-a-thons&lt;/a&gt; on the day of in response to the event. With
the opportunity to work alongside the UN, it is a good sign that the Wikipedia
gender gap issue is drawing global attention, not just in the Wikipedian
community level, but also in global institution level.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;u&gt;Collaborative&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;The &lt;a href="https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiWomen%27s_Collaborative"&gt;Wikiwomen’s
Collaborative&lt;/a&gt; is a global platform for female Wikipedians to share
projects, insights, and support. The Collaborative also encourages participants
to write blog post on the &lt;a href="https://blog.wikimedia.org/c/community/wikiwomen/"&gt;Wikiwomen’s Blog&lt;/a&gt;
to spread more words about the gender gap issue and initiatives. A &lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Countering_systemic_bias/Gender_gap_task_force"&gt;Gender
Gap Task Force (GGTF)&lt;/a&gt; was founded in 2013 aiming to challenge the
patriarchal culture of knowledge and Wikipedia. GGTF tries to fix the
encyclopedia’s imbalance power structure by initiating discussion and
examination on its policies and editor interaction. It has also been a place to
cumulate research studies and resources on the gender gap topic.&amp;nbsp; A (global) &lt;a href="https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/gendergap"&gt;gender gap
mailing list&lt;/a&gt; is also created to spread the news and words with more
communities.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;u&gt;Improvement in the
Interface&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Aside from events and
collectives organized by respective communities, the Wikipedia platform itself
has also been under constant transition in the last few years, trying to create
a friendlier place for women and newcomers.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Since June 2012,
the new prototype &lt;a href="https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/VisualEditor"&gt;Visual
Editor&lt;/a&gt; has become available in more and more language versions of Wikimedia
projects – including most Indian languages. Visual Editor enables editor to
contribute without learning the &lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki_markup"&gt;Wiki markups&lt;/a&gt;, as it
creates the “write-as-how-you-will-see-it” feature requiring only basic typing
skills. Nevertheless, Visual Editor does have several &lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:VisualEditor#Limitations"&gt;limitations&lt;/a&gt;
comparing to the traditional edit source option, including slower speed, unavailable
in talk and discussion namespaces, limited template editing options, and so on.
While a &lt;a href="https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:VisualEditor%27s_effect_on_newly_registered_editors/June_2013_study"&gt;research&lt;/a&gt;
in 2013 on Visual Editor’s use in English Wikipedia showed low effectiveness of
the new feature in attracting and encouraging new editors, more research should
also be done in the non-English (especially Global South) context. &lt;a href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Marathi_Wikipedia_Tutorials"&gt;Online
tutorial resources&lt;/a&gt; about editing are also becoming available in Indian
communities.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;On the other hand,
&lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Editing_on_mobile_devices"&gt;mobile
apps of Wikipedia&lt;/a&gt; has been improved in its editing function. Although the
apps are still in constant development to make the function smoother and easier
for mobile users, it is a great breakthrough for those who do not have personal
computers to contribute in small ways (or even in great ways – &lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Cullen328/Smartphone_editing#Why_I_edit_by_smartphone"&gt;some&lt;/a&gt;
have created pages and denied the statement that mobile editing is
impractical).&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;What’s more to be learned?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;There is no
denying that our Indian language communities have been putting efforts to
highlight and address the gender gap issue on Wikipedia. The &lt;a href="https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiConference_India_2016"&gt;Wikiconference
India 2016&lt;/a&gt; in August also had a panel responding to this topic where
panelists from both outreach and research threads proposed localized
perspective and strategies to fix the problem.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;However, there are
still much more to be learned. First of all, we need a more organized feedback
loop (a cycle of planning-executing-evaluating-sharing learning) for local
interventions to learn from our success and mistakes. Secondly, the issue has
to become more “public” in a sense that we are not just promoting within our
own circles. Awareness-building through media coverage and institutional
collaboration can bring in greater public opinions and volunteers to help the
online encyclopedia become a more inclusive place. The third point is a change
of mindset: women's feeling and experience should be put forward into the
central of our initiatives and interventions.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;blockquote&gt;

that we were focusing on the (female) participants and their experience, the
content they created online are of course important too, but that’s just the

&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;In other words, as
we are engaging more and more women, the focus should not be numbers but the
humans. At the same time, we should always encourage women to stand out and
speak out. As mentioned in the previous part, gender discrimination cases have
not yet been reported in our communities, but we also have to ensure if it does
happen both the female editors and the community should have a certain level of
awareness (what constitutes harassment/discrimination/sexism; when and how to
call out) and a report and support mechanism to the problem.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;The road to a real
equalized knowledge system is not easy. As many have noticed and pointed out
“This is not just a Wikipedia problem!” Indeed, similar gender imbalance exists
in our academies, IT industries, free and open-source software (FOSS) workplace,
to name a few. Nonetheless, with the flexibility and the strong bond that Indian
Wikipedian communities possess, we can be one of the pioneers in positive
changes. After all, the knowledge created and action taken today will shape
what our tomorrow can be like.&lt;/p&gt;

        &lt;b&gt;Five years after Wikimedia Foundation’s 2011 editor survey was conducted and revealed the gender gap issue, scholars, practitioners, and communities around the globe have come a long way to address the gender imbalance of the online encyclopedia. This blog post series (of three parts) serve as a summary of movements and discoveries about Wikipedia gender gap on both local (India) and global scales.&lt;/b&gt;
        
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;In the &lt;a class="external-link" href="http://cis-india.org/a2k/blogs/another-5-years-what-have-we-learned-about-the-wikipedia-gender-gap-and-what-has-been-done-part-1"&gt;last part&lt;/a&gt; of the blog series, we examined the
definition and danger of the Wikipedia gender gap. This issue has been puzzling
for many – why is there such a wide gap globally?&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Why is there a gender gap?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;The
reasons behind the Wikipedia gender gap are complex and culturally-sensitive. Two
main types of barriers are discussed as “inside of Wikipedia (internal)” and
“outside of Wikipedia (external).”&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;u&gt;India
v.s. the World&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Unfortunately,
most studies have been done in English Wikipedia and rarely in other smaller
language communities, despite the fact that these barriers can vary a lot in
different cultural, political, and economic context. In India, practitioners
and researchers have identified a few potential causes of low female participation
rate on Wikipedia. Contrary to what was discovered in the English Wikipedia,
researchers have found that Indian female Wikipedians are generally more active
and willing to participate in both online and offline interactions compared to
those in the English Wikipedia community. Reports of gender discrimination
cases are also fewer than those in the Western context. A possible explanation
to both phenomena is that Indian Wikipedian communities are rather small and
close-knitted which encourage more interpersonal networking and prevent
anonymous attacks&lt;a name="_ftnref1" href="file:///C:/Users/Ting-Yi/Desktop/coop/Blog%20post/BP2_Gender%20Gap%20summary.docx#_ftn1"&gt;&lt;span class="MsoFootnoteReference"&gt;&lt;span class="MsoFootnoteReference"&gt;[1]&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;u&gt;Awareness&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;However,
recruiting and keeping female Wikipedians in India do have its own barriers to
overcome. “Awareness” is discovered as one of the very primary barriers for most
to start editing Wikipedia. Many did not know that the online encyclopedia is easily
editable, and even more have not heard of (or are unfamiliar with the use of)
Wikipedia. Outreach events are important portals for both men and women to
discover and join local Wikipedia communities. And this is where weakness can
be turned into strength; as most newcomers are brought in through community
outreach events or personal connection, it creates a strong bond within the members
and a more welcoming culture featuring collectivism rather than individualism.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;u&gt;On the
societal level?&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Although
the binary categorization of inside and outside of Wikipedia is widely used, it
can easily lead us to believe that we can draw a clear line in between
Wikipedia and the offline world, but neglect the big picture which shapes both
sides of the table. Ignoring the fundamental (societal) level of the issue and
its linkage to other factors poses the risk of nurturing a symptom-fixing
solution instead of a system-questioning culture.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;For
example, societal factors such as expectation on women’s/girls’ role and priority
in her family can prevent them from the access to required facilities,
internet, training, and personal leisure time for joining (or continuing
editing) Wikipedia. On the psychological experience side, some women reported
that they do not feel comfortable when being so “visible” online and in the
community&lt;a name="_ftnref2" href="file:///C:/Users/Ting-Yi/Desktop/coop/Blog%20post/BP2_Gender%20Gap%20summary.docx#_ftn2"&gt;&lt;span class="MsoFootnoteReference"&gt;&lt;span class="MsoFootnoteReference"&gt;[2]&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;; and this has a lot to do
with how our online (and offline) society has been constructed and
conceptualized as an “unsafe” space for women.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;In
fact, Wagner et al. (2015)&lt;a name="_ftnref3" href="file:///C:/Users/Ting-Yi/Desktop/coop/Blog%20post/BP2_Gender%20Gap%20summary.docx#_ftn3"&gt;&lt;span class="MsoFootnoteReference"&gt;&lt;span class="MsoFootnoteReference"&gt;[3]&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt; have found that a nation’s
Gender Inequality Index (GII) is associated to the country’s editor gender bias
on Wikipedia. Although it was a study focusing on Global North samples, the
logic behind is most likely applicable in India (which ranked &lt;a href="http://hdr.undp.org/en/2015-report"&gt;130 out of 188 countries’ GII in 2014&lt;/a&gt;)
– as the more unequally women is treated in the society, the less likely that
she can reach the pre-requisite to be a Wikipedian, or even be online. For
example, in India there is a much lower literacy rate for female than male – 53.7%
to 75.3% as reported in the &lt;a href="http://www.censusindia.gov.in/Census_Data_2001/India_at_glance/glance.aspx"&gt;2011
Census&lt;/a&gt;. At the same time, population (above the age of 25) with at least
some secondary education is 56.6% for male and only 27% for female in India
based on the &lt;a href="http://hdr.undp.org/en/composite/GII#c"&gt;UN Human
Development Report&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;All
these societal factors and nuances feed into the gaps we see today – in higher
academic positions, in industries, and eventually in Wikipedia. It is
definitely not easy to address the macro-scale problems, but what we can do is
to change it from the community level to influence individuals and the society.
Hence, we are not just battling against an online phenomenon created by
individuals’ unwillingness to participate, but challenging and redressing the patriarchal
power while transforming the traditions of how knowledge flows. After all, bridging
the gender gap should not be merely a target of “We will reach X% female
participation rate by Y years,” it has much greater potential and
responsibility in the long run for our generations and societies.&lt;/p&gt;

    <title>Another 5 Years: What Have We Learned about the Wikipedia Gender Gap and What Has Been Done? (Part 1)</title>

&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;“Our editing community continues to suffer
from a lack of women editors…. only 8.5% of editors are women.&lt;/em&gt;”&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Probably
the most cited statement for Wikipedia gender gap studies, the &lt;a href="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/76/Editor_Survey_Report_-_April_2011.pdf"&gt;editor
survey&lt;/a&gt; conducted by Wikimedia Foundation in April 2011 revealed
the alarming imbalance within the online encyclopedia community(s). In the same
survey, the percentage of female Wikipedians in India is reported as only 3%. When
we have repeatedly emphasized on the development and changes the internet can
bring to our societies, how do we ensure that behind our computer screen it is
not just another mirror reflecting what has been silenced and forgotten?&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;What is the Wikipedia gender gap?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;There
are two main focus on the &lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_bias_on_Wikipedia"&gt;gender
gap within Wikipedia&lt;/a&gt; – the editor demographic and the coverage of
topics – which are essentially flip sides of a coin. With fewer female
contributors, we are losing a more diverse knowledge platform for all. But the
issue is far more complex than simply having less information about “friendship
bracelets” than “baseball cards.”&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Looking
at the biography pages on Wikipedia, researchers found that not only is the number of
female biographies much lower than males’ (due to historical factors, availability
of firsthand sources, and editors’ interest), but the linguistic and topical
bias within also presents &lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Writing_about_women#cite_note-1"&gt;a male-centered discourse&lt;/a&gt;. For example, on women’s
biography pages, words related to one’s gender such as “women,” “female,”
“lady” will be used more commonly than the counterpart words in men’s pages;
and that a women’s biography will have more information about her marriage and
family life than her male counterpart’s. Studies also found that female-related
articles are more likely to be linked to male-related ones but not the other
way around&lt;a name="_ftnref1" href="file:///C:/Users/Ting-Yi/Desktop/coop/Blog%20post/BP2_Gender%20Gap%20summary.docx#_ftn1"&gt;&lt;span class="MsoFootnoteReference"&gt;&lt;span class="MsoFootnoteReference"&gt;[1]&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;. This
demonstrates that the editing preference, styles, and content
are closely related to the editors’ genders and how they see the world. In
other words, language and knowledge cannot be separated from one’s gender – the
Internet may be bodiless but it can never become genderless&lt;a name="_ftnref2" href="file:///C:/Users/Ting-Yi/Desktop/coop/Blog%20post/BP2_Gender%20Gap%20summary.docx#_ftn2"&gt;&lt;span class="MsoFootnoteReference"&gt;&lt;span class="MsoFootnoteReference"&gt;[2]&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Wagner et al.’s paper&lt;a name="_ftnref3" href="file:///C:/Users/Ting-Yi/Desktop/coop/Blog%20post/BP2_Gender%20Gap%20summary.docx#_ftn3"&gt;&lt;span class="MsoFootnoteReference"&gt;&lt;span class="MsoFootnoteReference"&gt;[3]&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt; in early
2016 also confirmed the existence of a “glass ceiling” for female figures to be
considered “notable” enough to have a Wikipedia bio page (or for the page not
to be deleted). Who gets to decide what is “notable enough” becomes
questionable when we understand the gender bias. As a matter of fact, while the
difference in male and female biography numbers is narrower for globally known
figures, a larger gender gap exists for “local hero(ine)s” because of the
notability threshold applied. That is to say, many women and female-related
topics are underrepresented (and underappreciated) on Wikipedia.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The danger and why it matters&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;u&gt;Low awareness&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;The
Wikipedia gender gap is problematic and deserves more attention than ever not
only because gender imbalance should be tackled both online and offline, but
also that this imbalance is so prevalent and has been taken for granted by most.
Little do people consider, that with every single “click” on one’s google
search, we can be provided with an answer from a single-gender narration. This
imbalance and its problems are behind the scene – the share of male and female
editors are never on the surface without a holistic survey. While gender
balance has been pushed in our business, education, and government sectors, the
online encyclopedia feeding &lt;a href="http://www.internetlivestats.com/internet-users/"&gt;billions&lt;/a&gt; of
internet users (and &lt;a href="http://www.trai.gov.in/WriteReadData/PIRReport/Documents/Indicator_Reports.pdf"&gt;over
300 million in India&lt;/a&gt; itself)&amp;nbsp; is
still constructed in a male-dominant culture with little questioning from the
public.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;u&gt;Legacy
and influence&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;There
is the saying that Internet is changing the human default from “forgetting”
into “remembering.” Wikipedia can serve as a great tool for digitization of
knowledge and the preservation of languages. What is to be recorded now will
become parts of (perhaps the most accessible) history in the future, and we
cannot afford a history without women’s voices and knowledge. Hence, to include
more women editors and women-related content is not simply out of a concern of
diversity, it is to ensure that this time we can pass on the legacy in a better
and more equitable fashion for the whole population.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;u&gt;The vicious
circle&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;“We’ve to participate in meet ups
and workshops, then question (from family members) arises like how many guys
are there, is there any girl or not. In one sentence we're discouraged by our
surrounding&lt;/em&gt;.”&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p align="right" style="text-align: right;"&gt;– Female editor from local community&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;The urgency of this problem is that
the lesser women are presented in the communities, the harder a motivation can
be established for new female editors to join. Now that we have made this issue
visible, the core mission we have is to ensure a change in the system and
environment that helps women feel more welcomed and comfortable – even when
they are aware that they are the minority.&lt;/p&gt;

    <title>Analysis on the strategies of Mozilla and Wiki communities on gender gap aspects</title>

        &lt;b&gt;There is a need for research on how Open Source communities are trying to balance the gender ratio and how they provide the safe space environment to its contributors. With this in mind I have come up with this blog as I am an active contributor of Mozilla since 5 years and also got myself recently introduced to Wikimedia and its sister projects, have interacted with few Indian women contributors in both of these communities and came out with a few observations on how I see them in India and what could be improved in both communities.&lt;/b&gt;
        
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Opening note&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Wikipedia community&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;Wikipedia is an encyclopedia of articles where many users can edit it freely and it has become so large that you run across it all the time in Google. It is so popular that it is now one of the&amp;nbsp;&lt;a href="http://alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url"&gt;Top&amp;nbsp;&lt;/a&gt;5 websites in the world! ­The reason behind the growth is because the articles are simple and useful.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Wikipedians are the contributors who do a communal work to improve the content by editing bits of&amp;nbsp; text and cluster them to the large database. Beyond this there are other sister projects of Wikimedia which interest the audience on whichever they are expertise about. The main motivation for these contributors is their freedom to contribute in their own native language which they are more passionate about. This is a great social cause they are contributing towards.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Mozilla community&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;Mozilla makes browsers, apps, code and tools that put people before profit. In fact, there’s a non-profit Foundation at the heart of the enterprise.Their mission is to keep the internet open and accessible to all. Hope everyone uses or had at least at some point seen Firefox browser/logo, so this is the prime product of Mozilla. There are&amp;nbsp; various projects to support the Firefox browser and they are mostly Open Source.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;Mozillians are the volunteers who contribute in the improvement&amp;nbsp; of these projects thus helping the world to access the internet and the Open web.Mozilla Volunteers are passionate to learn,collaborate and knowledge share among a large world-wide community and the crew is a mix of coder, non-coders, policy makers and anyone who supports Open Web.&amp;nbsp; The point that drives everyone to contribute is that the community creates a vibe to contribute and to create a safe and better experience in accessing the digital world.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;&lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedians"&gt;WikiProject Women&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;This a group of editors who aim to improve Wikipedia's coverage of&amp;nbsp;&lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women"&gt;women&lt;/a&gt;'s topics. It brings Wikipedia users of all genders, sexual orientations, geographic locations, and personal backgrounds together to discuss and collaborate on coverage of women's content across&amp;nbsp; Wikipedia.There are various streams in which women can be part of the larger mission for instance:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.artandfeminism.org/"&gt;Art and Feminism&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;&lt;a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Women_in_Red"&gt;Women in Red&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;&lt;a href="https://www.wikiloveswomen.org/"&gt;Wiki loves women&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li style="list-style-type: disc;" dir="ltr"&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.womoz.org/"&gt;Womoz&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;Women &amp;amp; Mozilla ("WoMoz") a community composed of members from different Open Source projects.It is&amp;nbsp; mainly dedicated to improving women's visibility and involvement in Free/Open Source and Mozilla, and to increase the number of women contributors. Anyone can participate in this project, regardless of sex, age, job, etc. We are united by the common goal of promoting women's visibility and involvement in open source communities. They also believe that the Internet, FLOSS projects and computing must remain open and participatory. This also means accessible in the same way to all - women and men alike.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;It also believe solutions should continuously be proposed in order to improve the visibility of all minorities, who for various reasons might not have equal access to computers or the Internet. This project is an example of this, as it aims at ameliorating women's presence and participation in Mozilla and open source. But currently this group is not very active, except for a few regional contributors where they find massive necessity to focus on the women participation.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Overview of&amp;nbsp; the strategies used&amp;nbsp; for increasing women participation&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li style="list-style-type: decimal;" dir="ltr"&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Methodologies used&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;Both the communities are great supporters of the Free Softwares and licenses and so the methods that is used in addressing the gender gap issues is as follows:&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li style="list-style-type: disc;" dir="ltr"&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;Conduct gender neutral events like hack-a-thons/ edit-a-thons where the tutor is a woman or there is a large ratio of under represented community in the event.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li style="list-style-type: disc;" dir="ltr"&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;Host monthly offline/online meetups.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li style="list-style-type: disc;" dir="ltr"&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;Work on projects which are&amp;nbsp; gender neutral based.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li style="list-style-type: disc;" dir="ltr"&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;Following up special protocols like CoCs strictly at these events.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li style="list-style-type: disc;" dir="ltr"&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;Days like “International Women’s Day” and on similar significant occasions some unique events will be hosted and contributors will be appreciated.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;ol start="2"&gt;&lt;li style="list-style-type: decimal;" dir="ltr"&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Impact on Indian communities&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;
&lt;p dir="ltr"&gt;The WikiProject woman and WoMoz programs play a very important role among the Indian communities. Although I do not see a single or uniform progress there is always a good scale-up among the regional communities. For a country like India where there is still necessity for uplifting the presence and awareness of these type of FOSS programs I feel that most of these programs are extensively hosted in urban or developed phases of the country. Recently, the internet access has spread across but then the basic knowledge of contributing to Open Source is still abandoned. The end result and the what the contributors shall get on contributing to these communities must be emphasised more.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Closing note&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;My study and analysis on these two communities is drawn from personal interest and engagement with these communities&amp;nbsp; since I have been contributing and interacting with the contributors for the last few years. The objective of this post is basically to bring about an awareness on the accessible resources on bridging the digital divide , and how these resources can be modified and taken further for a country like India. The efforts taken to improve the gender neutrality by the above communities is laudable but more light has to be thrown on improving the measures taken to sustain women contributors&lt;/p&gt;
